في covers spatial, temporal, and topical meanings. A common mistake is confusing it with عن ('about', 'from') when discussing subjects: في is used for the topic being discussed, while عن emphasizes distance or source. في is also used for multiplication (مرتين في ثلاثة means 'two times three').
