As an infinitive marker, أن follows modal and desiderative verbs (أريد، أستطيع، أحتاج). As a conjunction, it introduces dependent clauses and is one of the most frequent connectors in Arabic. Do not confuse the particle أن with the verb أنّ (to groan), which shares spelling but differs in function and frequency.
