Russian - German Dictionary
[ja]
Я is the Russian first-person singular personal pronoun, equivalent to German ich. It is also used as a noun meaning 'the self' or 'ego', translated as Ich or Ego.
| # | Type | Russian | German |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | pronoun | я personal pronoun | ich |
| 2 | noun | я the self | Ich |
| 3 | noun | я the self | Ego |
| 4 | pronoun | я subject of a verb with “and” | ich |
Я студент.
Ich bin Student.
Я и мой брат любим футбол.
Ich und mein Bruder mögen Fußball.
Познай самого себя — это мой путь к истинному я.
Erkenne dich selbst — das ist mein Weg zum wahren Ich.
As a pronoun, я is always lowercase and typically omitted in Russian sentences when the verb already indicates the subject, though it can be used for emphasis. When я appears in a compound subject with 'and' (я и...), it still translates as ich in German. The noun forms (Ich, Ego) appear mainly in philosophical or psychological contexts.
